Beyonce sued for stealing Des'ree's song
Beyonce Knowles is being sued by British singer Des’ree, who says the R&B superstar illegally covered one of her songs.
Des’ree has filed a suit in Manhattan Superior Court alleging Beyonce didn’t get permission of cover her song I’m Kissing You – which appears in the 1996 Leonardo DiCaprio movie Romeo and Juliet - for her new album, B’Day, under the title Still In Love (Kissing You).
Des’ree says Beyonce and her reps originally tried to arrange a deal to use her song. When Be wasn’t happy with the terms of the deal, that she couldn’t change the title or film a video for the song, she just went ahead and did both without permission.
Des’ree is said to be seeking $150,000 in damages and hoping to stop distribution and sale of the song.
Spokespeople for Des’ree and Beyonce are yet to comment.
